Wee Wild West 2022

Acknowledgement: As leaders and educators in our community, we focus on the positive aspects of the Calgary Stampede as Calgarians and the importance of community engagement and recognizing the history of Calgary.

We had a fun-filled week with all of the little ones and their country-themed outfits and festivities throughout our centres. With each day different there was never a dull moment! Read on for a recap of how we brought the spirit of Stampede into our centres!

Stampede Parade

Starting July 7th, our little ones broke out their denim, plaid, cowboy hats and boots and marched around our centres in our annual kick-off Stampede parade!

Line Dancing

Educators, children and our leadership team got our best western wear and moseyed on down to the gym to participate in a few line dances choreographed by our educators.

Wilder Ones Relay

Each classroom brought their creative minds together and built relay activities for their classroom to participate in. From face painting, a CD toss, pinning the tail on the donkey, to a photo booth, the laughter and joy of the children had filled the centres.

Vegan Pancake Breakfast & Midway

Who could say no to a delicious pancake breakfast?! Our Chefs created a nutritious and delicious meal for the children to enjoy with some Canadian maple syrup and fruit just before their carnival adventure in the gymnasium to try the different relays the other classrooms created.

CD Toss:

For this game, the children would stand a few feet from the upcycled coffee bins and throw CDs at each with different point values encouraging a little healthy competition and giggles along the way. This game helps children develop and improve coordination skills.

Pin the Tail

Classrooms took turns in making their best attempt at correctly adding the missing tail from our cardboard donkey. The little ones would cover their eyes, spin around and march forward to pin on the donkey.

Photo Booth

Without a homemade cardboard photo booth, it couldn't be a stampede midway extravaganza! The children had fun creating different props made from cardboard, stickers and markers and posed as educators took photos to document the many fun and exciting memories with their friends.

Overall, our third annual Wee West West was an absolute success! Seeing the little ones dress up in their best western outfits, connect with other classrooms throughout the centre, and learn about the history of the Stampede continues to amaze us and precede all expectations.

See y’all next year!
